What Type of Christian Are You?
Here's a question that might make you squirm a little: Are you really living for God?
You might be thinking, "How can anyone really know?" And honestly, that's a fair question. Because if you're like most people, you probably call yourself a Christian, but you might not be sure what "living for God" actually looks like day-to-day.
Here's something I've discovered after years of ministry: Just because you call yourself a Christian doesn't necessarily mean you're living for God. And before you get offended, hear me out.
Three Types of Christians
I've noticed that Christians tend to fall into three categories. Maybe you'll recognize yourself in one of them:
Cultural Christians acknowledge that Jesus lived, but they haven't accepted Him as Savior. They might have been raised in a Christian home or think, "Well, I'm American, so I guess I'm Christian." They show up to church maybe at Christmas, but that's about it. They've inherited the label without the relationship.
Sunday Christians have accepted Jesus as Savior, but they've just added Jesus to their life like they'd add a hobby or club membership. They might attend church regularly, but Monday through Saturday looks pretty much the same as it did before they met Jesus. Their faith has a designated time slot, but it doesn't transform their everyday reality.
Kingdom-minded Christians are saved AND they've made living for God and His kingdom their first priority. They understand that Jesus didn't just come to get them to heaven someday—He came to bring heaven's culture to earth right now. Yes, they still have to work, raise families, and handle daily responsibilities, but their number one focus is advancing God's kingdom here on earth.
The Kingdom Is Here Now
Here's what changed everything for me: realizing that God's kingdom isn't just a future destination—it's a present reality. When Jesus came, He brought the kingdom with Him. And as His followers, we're called to be citizens of heaven who view living on earth as our current assignment.
That means we're not just waiting around for heaven. We're actively bringing heaven's culture—love, peace, forgiveness, hope, transformation—into our families, workplaces, and communities right now.
Where Do You Stand?
So which type of Christian are you? If you're being honest with yourself, where do you see yourself in these three categories?
Maybe you've been coasting as a cultural Christian, going through the motions without real connection. Or perhaps you've been a Sunday Christian, keeping Jesus in a neat little box that doesn't interfere with the rest of your life.
The beautiful thing is, wherever you are right now, God wants more for you. He created you for relationship, not religion. He designed you to experience the fullness of life that comes from making His kingdom your priority.
Jesus said it this way: "But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you" (Matthew 6:33).
Your Next Step
If you're feeling that tug in your heart—that sense that there's more to following Jesus than what you're currently experiencing—that's God calling you deeper. He's inviting you to move beyond cultural Christianity or Sunday Christianity into a life where His kingdom becomes your passion and priority.
It's not about perfection. It's about pursuit. It's about waking up each day and asking, "How can I advance God's kingdom today? How can I bring a little bit of heaven to earth in my interactions, my decisions, my relationships?"
The transformation you're longing for—in your heart, your relationships, your sense of purpose—it's found in pursuing God with everything you've got. Not because you have to, but because you get to be part of something so much bigger than yourself.
